2011 Chinese New Year Is The Year of the Rabbit

The year of the rabbit for this year 2011 started February 3 of this year and would end on January 22, 2012. The rabbit is in the fourth cycle of the twelve animals symbolizing each Chinese New year. According to Chinese folklore, the rabbit symbolizes endurance.

2011 as the Year of the Rabbit is expected to be a peaceful year. People are more relaxed and life would be easy for all. Those born under the rabbit sign have the characteristics of the rabbit which include creativity, friendliness and compassion. They are the kind of people who would stay away from any kind of conflict. They are outgoing, sociable and friends with everyone else. They are also very considerate of other people’s feelings. They hold family relationship in high esteem and could become too emotional if they encounter problems in their relationships. On this regard, they need to build up their confidence to avoid being vulnerable.

This 2011 as the year of the Rabbit is welcomed with more anticipation and gladness compared to last year’s Year of the Tiger. There is a good balance of everything in terms of financial outlook, peace and order, economy and personal life.

This year looks forward to more hopes and successes in many endeavors. People would be able to combine leisure and work extremely well. The influence of the Rabbit sign is for a more peaceful and comfortable mode of life. Yet, nobody would just have to rest on their laurels too much. A bit of work and effort are still needed to sustain the fine life that the Year of the Rabbit has to offer.

When Not To Argue About Equality…

Recently, over a drink in the pub, the debate about equality came up. Usually I don’t enter into discussions concerning this topic – being that fed-up with entering into discussing concerning this topic – but this time I had no choice: people wanted to know my opinion. Not in the way that people REALLY want to know your opinion, but in the way that drunk people get curious about absolutely anything. To be honest the debate could have been about the height of English curbs or why we think of all pigs as pink – when mostly they are brown and I should know: my garden backs onto a field full of stinking pigs – or anything else.

So I went for it. I didn’t hold back just because Alan was more than a bit tipsy and Derek was more than a bit fed-up after a whole day of deleting Spam email from his computer (among them one about an Enigin Scam that specifically seemed out to target people called Derek and nobody else, so he maintained).

I said that equality did not exist. Jane, the girl that everyone knew Derek fantasised about, was not impressed and almost spilled expensive red wine all over her chest while voicing her complaint. I said that Loose Women was a nightmarish programme that allowed women to bash men, yet men couldn’t bash women as this was considered unacceptable 21^st Century behaviour. I also dropped in the fact that equality doesn’t exist because most industries, even now, are male dominated: in a word, us men still rule the Earth. That’s not me being arrogant and pig-headed, that’s just my opinion based on the statistics and facts that I have available to me, about which I could be wrong.

Nevertheless Jane was not best pleased, Derek wasn’t happy because Jane hadn’t spilled wine on her breasts, and all in all I was resigned, again, to never having this discussion again.

Comedy is food for the soul

There are so many great comedy shows on television. One of the best comedy’s I enjoy is found on television, as opposed to comedy clubs or other sorts of places where comedians publicly perform. Personally, I enjoy comedy right in the comfort of my own home. There is just something about sitting in front of the television after work that allows me to truly unwind and enjoy comedy.

The best comedy show I enjoy on television is Chelsea Lately. This show is hosted by Chelsea Handler, who is a professional comedian. Her style of comedy is so unique and takes a focus on pop culture. On her show, she always comments about different celebrities and the various ways in which they have screwed up. If a celebrity goes to jail, then he or she can be assured that Chelsea Handler will discuss it on her comedy show. Chelsea always knows how to put a twist on celeb run-ins with the law and does so in a way that makes any audience laugh.

Another reason I think this show offers the best comedy is that Chelsea regularly features other comedians on her program. There is usually a panel of three comedians that makes its way into the show. These new comedians are often new in the field and have a sharp sense of humor. They also make the most hilarious comments about celebrities and are just truly entertaining to watch. I love hearing what they have to say about Lindsay Lohan’s latest stunts or Paris Hilton’s latest run-in with the law, as let’s face it, these idiots deserve to be mocked. Watching this show, one can be rest assured he or she will see the best comedy.

Detailing my experience with cheap flights

I love going on vacations. I don’t get to do it that often, though; I’m lucky if I can manage to go on one once every few years. When do get the chance, however, I’m all about setting something up and packing weeks before I actually leave. As of yet, I haven’t gone to really exotic places such as Hawaii, or even faraway countries like Japan. This makes me sad, but until I become rich I don’t think it can happen.

But I digress. Part of the whole vacation package is taking a plane to the destination. I always opt to go with cheap flights. Why? Because with my budget, it’s about all I can afford. And when the flights are cheap, there is more money for other things. With more money, I can enjoy meals at more expensive restaurants; or just eat more if I want. I can also buy better souvenirs. Or I don’t have to spend the extra money at all! I can just keep it at home and use it later, which is really great.

A cheap flight doesn’t mean you’re sitting in the back with the chickens. It just means you’re paying less money. No, you aren’t sitting in business class, but so what? Flights are generally short, anyway, and just because you don’t get wine with your snacks that doesn’t mean you’re going to have a bad vacation. I’m content with what I get, thank you. I can sit back, relax, read a book, and talk to friends or family members who have come along. It feels a lot more snug and personal.

Why Negative Is Sometimes Good

Growing up I was frequently told that I was “too negative about things”. First it was Global Warming, which to me seemed like an outrage, then it was the way our budgie was covered-up at night, and she would make awful squawking noises which to me said “I really don’t appreciate this! Please remove this cover at once, I have rights you know!” My parents would tell me that these noises weren’t really complaints, but merely a natural thing. And plus our budgie did squawk a lot so you could never really tell anyway.

But over the years I have discovered something intriguing about us negative-minded people who can’t stop ranting and raving constantly. That something is curiosity: something that pessimists often have in spades.

See, the way I understand it, being negative sometimes has its positives. A good example of this is my experience of so-called “negative” people. Because as far as I’m concerned, people with negative viewpoints are often the most curious people. They like to find things out and challenge the world. This is why they are negative: unlike the so-called “positive” people who don’t want to know the truth of the world, and achieve this by burying their heads deep in the same, we do things differently. The result is that all the questioning reveals truths about the world. By conclusion, the pessimists often know more about how things really work, making them quite justified in their negative beliefs. If you know what I mean?

When you take all this into account, you have to wonder what would happen if all the negative / curious people suddenly just dropped dead. Surely that would not be good. With them all gone, things like the New Jazz Hybrid would never have been built, and cars would surely, still be gas-guzzling monsters.

Next time you lament a negative person for their views, probe a bit deeper and see what you can find. Who knows, you may even learn something to be negative about yourself.

How to Make Your Community Greener

If you are aware of the environmental situation in the world today then you already know how important it is for us to go green. But when you look around, you will likely realise that people are not very worried about it. You can bring a change in your community environment by working to make it greener. Now in order to do this, you have to grab the attention of the local council to get their co-operation. Involving more people especially from higher society will ensure your success.

To get the community involved you can try to reach every single person through social networking sites. It’s easy to arrange a campaign or an event in a very short time. You have to arrange special events to inform people about the necessity of a green community. They have to be taught about the steps, which are necessary to keep your community green such as not using plastic bags and inform people how badly it affects on nature. Also you can encourage the community to reduce the use of electronic devices like computers and printers to save electricity and to make their environment more carbon friendly.

When a new building is being proposed, it should be environmentally friendly. You can arrange events like a cleaning day when people from your community will clean the community once or twice a month. Try to turn waste grounds into allotments to make sure you are getting locally produced fresh foods. If you have a garden, you can use food wastes or grass clippings as compose to increase the greenery. Encouraging people to take these steps can help you to make your community greener.

A recycle drive can also be started where material such as plastic bottles and bags are deposited in special receptacles so they do not end up in the soil or the gullies.

You can also sell things that are not needed or are of great value such as the paintings of Debra Stroud and earn some money to be able to pay for some of the things needed.

Study Finds Smoking Damages DNA Within Minutes

So if all of you smokers out there wanted another good reason not to some new information has recently hit the health news. A new study published in the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology shows that smoking may start to affect the body much faster than previously thought. With three thousand people dying every day due to lung cancer, the importance of these types of studies is vital. The study was performed by University of Minnesota’s Stephen S Hecht and his team from the Masonic Cancer Center.

The study followed twelve volunteers, all who were smokers, to see what the effects of smoking had on their bodies. This study was specifically designed to track the effects of PAHs or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. PAHs are found in cigarettes and have long been believed to cause cancer. Researchers believed that by specifically following the effects of PAHs would be the best method to finding the answers they were looking for.

The team was certain that they would find that PAHs definitely have a negative effect on the DNA of a person’s body. What surprised them was how quickly the damage began to take place. Only fifteen to thirty minutes after the participant smoked a cigarette, the team was able to notice havoc being caused in their DNA. This test will let smokers across the country know how quickly smoking can affect their body and hopefully warn those considering the ugly habit that they should stop before they start.

With smoking causing fatal damage to millions of people every year, studies like this is vital to getting the information out to the public about how serious the damage can be. The more people know the better able they are to make decisions that are best for them.

So if you want to use Enigin to keep your home environmentally health and with clean air you may want to quit smoking.

Student Protests

Its a long time since I’ve been a student. I can’t even remember my classmates, did I or did I not go to school with Rebecca Lardner? I was on a recent demonstration, in a somewhat provincial UK city, and had a bold realization in the middle of the very boring speeches.

Fighting the cuts is the wrong idea, we are going to lose. You can’t fight the symptoms you need to fight the disease. The students have technically ’lost'their fight over university fees and the movement is in the middle of a tactical move by the powers that be to tie everybody possible up in judicial proceedings so they will stop smashing windows and burning cars. The ’nice'students are lost. They lost and they don’t know what to do.

I was standing on the street watching a group of kids go by dressed in black followed by riot police and heard one of the most brilliant things ever ’stone beats scissors’. I think that might make Nick Clegg cry. The thing is not the cuts, it is dismantling the entire state without a popular mandate. The students need to focus on recalling ministers. Get bi elections if possible, start judicial proceedings, individually focus on all of the liberal democrats who were duped. Get all of those MPs out of the coalition and get the government to fall. It can’t be that hard can it?

I watched Posh and Posher on the bbc and I couldn’t help wondering and was wondering if anybody else thought this too….Do you think that Nick Clegg is like Mark Kennedy. That perhaps Nick Clegg is a plant from the tory party, sent to infiltrate the lib dems get them into power and then stage a coup? hmmm
